Just in time for Valentine's Day, California Lawyer features a lengthy story on sex torts. The story focuses on a recent tortious transmission of an STD case, Behr v. Redmond, in which a jury recently awarded the plaintiff a whopping $6.75 million after she contracted herpes from her boyfriend (the defendant has appealed). The plaintiff's attorney, Shaun Murphy, also recently won a $2.49 million award in another herpes transmission case, Saadian v. Saadian. Murphy has two other clients who have accused former partners of infecting them with STDs. For those of you thinking about a legal specialty, perhaps this area is worth considering.
